Making Driving Safer – Akesh Ram

"My role is to ensure, that the vehicles I inspect are safe for the road" #MakingDrivingSafer

Meet Akesh Ram – one of our experienced Vehicle Inspectors at VINZ. Akesh, is part of our Mount Wellington team and has worked for VINZ for over 25 years.

Originally from Nadi Fiji, Akesk came to New Zealand at the age of 17 years old to pursue his dream, as a mechanic.  Akesh, studied at Unitec in Auckland, before doing his apprentice as a mechanic, while working part time for A1 Towing After Hours.

“My First full time job was at McDonalds-Hellegan Motors as a Motor Mechanic”, say Akesh. During this time, I completed my qualifications in Trade Certificate Diesel and Petrol and inspection authorities in Motorcycle, Light COF, Heavy COF, WOF, PSV and various compliance per say. I also, achieved National Certificate in Business (first line management, level 3), says Akesh “this was my foot in the door to becoming a Vehicle Inspector”.

Askesh, joined VINZ in 1995 as a light Vehicle Certifier and “I have been part of the VINZ family since” says Akesh. “I have learnt a lot at VINZ and have met multitudes of great people”.

“My role is to ensure, that the vehicles I inspect are safe for the road, and for each vehicle I inspect, I need to draw on my mechanical repair experience and technical training, while also being observant, consistent, patient and dedicated” says Akesh.

Akesh says, he became a Vehicle Inspector “for the challenge and to be of service to the public. Being able to read technical legislation and apply it in a practical way is also important to having safe inspection results”
