In April we announced temporary extensions for expiring vehicle and licensing documentation. This was to help people continue to drive and use vehicles legally while COVID-19 restrictions were in place. Since then we have been working closely with the Ministry of Transport to establish a renewal date for these documents.<\/p>\n

I can now share that the Government has confirmed all Warrants of Fitness (WoFs), Certificates of Fitness (CoFs), driver licences, endorsements, vehicle licences (regos) and other certifications must be renewed by 11.59pm, 10 October 2020.<\/p>\n

We have been very impressed with the number of renewals already completed, and I would like to acknowledge our Waka Kotahi teams and our service providers who have been working in unforeseen circumstances, including managing significant backlogs of work.<\/p>\n

Renew at your earliest convenience.

\nI would like to encourage you, your members, colleagues, family and friends to renew WoFs, CoFs, driver licences, endorsements, vehicle licences (regos) and certifications sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

This is for three reasons:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ensuring your vehicle remains safe to drive. Nothing replaces a full vehicle inspection, especially if you are driving commercially and taking passengers or heavy loads.<\/li>\n
  2. Securing an inspection time. You can do this by dropping by your local inspection site or booking. Vehicle inspection queues are increasing, and schedules are already filling up and any vehicle without a valid WoF\/CoF after 10 October 2020 cannot legally be driven.<\/li>\n
  3. Avoiding long wait times. We expect wait times at driver licensing agents to grow significantly leading up to October, so visit a driver licensing agent now to make sure you get your new licence\/endorsement in time. You will not be able to legally drive if your licence is not renewed by 11.59pm, 10 October 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We want to avoid disruption to the freight and public transport sectors so please make every effort to renew CoFs and licences in time.<\/p>\n

    I also recommend that you renew your rego online as it only takes a few minutes.<\/p>\n

    The message is simple. Renew now. Beat the rush. Make sure you can continue to legally drive and use your vehicle after 10 October 2020.<\/p>\n
