Vehicle inspection company VINZ has invested heavily into two of its new sites in Hamilton and Palmerston North.<\/p>\n
The new sites allow the testing stations to provide a greater range of services, especially in the heavy compliance and CoFB segments. <\/p>\n
\u201cVINZ (Vehicle Inspection NZ Ltd) is in an expansion phase and is investing in providing customers a state of the art testing station service,\u201d says chief executive Gordon Shaw.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had outgrown the old sites and needed to provide better locations, especially for our heavy vehicle customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new sites enable more efficient processing of vehicles and faster turnaround times.<\/p>\n
\u201cService delivery in the new sites is more efficient and we have invested in the latest testing equipment to provide better efficiency and service,\u201d Gordon says.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the big advantages are the new 26m lanes, and not only that but the new pits are deeper, and that also makes a difference\u201d. The new pits are custom designed for mechanics to make inspections easier. <\/p>\n
The changes mean the sites can deal better with the bigger trucks that are becoming more prevalent on our roads. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs the trucks on the road are getting bigger, what they call high productivity vehicles, they can carry more weight,\u201d. The old locations made access difficult to exit out of the stations because space was tight. Some of the big vehicles had to be backed out.<\/p>\n
Both Hamilton and Palmerston North sites have better access, and exiting is easier, the buildings themselves, have more natural lighting, and efficient equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n
An example of the latter is the new electric jacks, which are far quicker than the hydraulic jacks at the former sites. We carried out time and motion trials in the new sites and the average saving was approximately 51 seconds per lift, so the new technology can save on average between five and 15 minutes per truck. <\/p>\n
The new sites offer the full range of VINZ\u2019s products and services, with a focus on heavy vehicle inspections and certification and NZTA transactional services.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Pre-purchase inspections, to give greater confidence to buyers and seller of used vehicles
\n\u2022 Heavy vehicle entry certification

\n\u2022 Administrative services, such as re-registrations and vehicle licensing.
\n\u2022 Motorcycle compliance
\n\u2022 Off-site forklift WoFs
\n\u2022 Engine oil top ups<\/p>\n
