“I have always had a passion for helping people; right from life-saving training and coaching as a young swimmer, being an emergency 111 call-handler and First Responder for St John, to studying Health and Safety Management as a mature-aged student” says Lynley.

Meet Lynley Ward, who joins us from the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) Project  for the newly appointed position of Health and Safety Specialist.

“I have always had a passion for helping people; right from life-saving training and coaching as a young swimmer, being an emergency 111 call-handler and First Responder for St John, to studying Health and Safety Management as a mature-aged student” says Lynley.

“When someone is injured or killed, as a result, of a workplace accident it is not just the employee or their family who is affected – the 111 call-handler is required to provide life-saving first aid instruction to the colleagues of people, who had been injured in workplace accidents; the anguish and distress that was evident from caller’s voices has inspired me to share the many benefits of working in a safe and healthy manner” says Lynley.

At VINZ we have thorough and relevant Health and Safety Management Systems to help to ensure that everyone goes home to their families, at the end of the day, without experiencing the horrors of workplace accidents.

Lynley says “the Team at VINZ work hard and diligently, to ensure that every vehicle they inspect is as safe as it should be on our roads.  My role is to ensure that our Team are able, to do this in a safe and healthy manner.  I have enjoyed, meeting all, of our Team, and visiting our Testing Stations throughout New Zealand.  These visits have helped me to gain a thorough understanding of the idiosyncrasies of each site, and to provide suggestions to ensure that VINZ is meeting its legislative, regulatory, and moral health and safety obligations as an employer-of-choice in the Vehicle Inspections Industry”.

“As the VINZ Health and Safety Specialist, I am grateful for the level of support and endorsement I receive, on a, daily basis from Sean Stevens – CEO, the VINZ Board, and right across to our Vehicle Inspectors and Vinners.  This has made the introduction and implementation of our new Health and Safety Management System an achievement I am very proud to be a part of” says Lynley
