At VINZ we underpin vehicle safety and compliance in New Zealand! We have the size to matter and the agility to quickly grasp opportunities.

We operate in a challenging and engaging regulatory environment, with strong partnerships across industry. We have 11 Testing stations and work in more than 15 additional 3rd party sites nationally. Our delivery and support staff are in excess of 180 FTE, and we’re growing.

To support our mission of “Delivering the highest standard in vehicle inspection, industry expertise and innovation” and ensuring the vehicles we inspect are safe we want the same for our people as they are our most important resource.

We are offering this fixed term role in order to assess VINZ current policies, systems and practices. VINZ have the commitment and desire to provide a safe and healthy place for our people to work, including our contractors, clients and customers who visit our national sites on a regular basis.

Reporting to the CEO the successful person will be an experienced Health and Safety professional with a motivational drive for safety in the workplace.

The successful person must have the ability to influence and engage people at all levels of the business. You will ensure the safety and health of staff is treated with the highest importance, and conducted in accordance with HSE policies, procedures and expectations.

The role will provide support to our managers to develop a proactive health, safety and environmental culture that fits with VINZ work activities. This will include carrying out proactive audits, inspections and observations to monitor H&S performance and effectiveness of existing hazard and risk management controls. Due to our national footprint travel within NZ will be required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to carry out incident investigations
  • In depth knowledge of NZ Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
  • Previous experience and understanding of safety management systems
  • Practical knowledge of New Zealand Health and Safety legislative requirements
  • Strong background in Hazard Identification, Task Analysis and Risk Management
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised, use initiative and make sound decisions
  • Ability to positively influence staff / clients and contractors at all levels
  • Current NZ Class 1 Drivers Licence
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Suite of products
  • Self-motivated, reliable and focused
  • Ability to relate to a wide range of people in a professional manner
  • Knowledge and experience with H&S, ACC systems and investigative training
